Image sourcing

Magazines source their photographs through photographers, freelancers, picture libraries and PR companies. The photos in a magazine should illustrate what the article is about and allow the reader to identify the people who are featured in it. Magazines use picture libraries and agencies to get photographs, picture libraries and agencies are companies that will sell you photographs when you are unable to take the photograph or someone else either because the person you want a photo of is dead or it is a past event, an example of a picture library is 'Corbis'.

Picture/art editor

The role of the art editor is important for the success of the magazine and also how it is received in the market and how it looks when its put on sale to the public. The art editor is responsible for a team of layout artists and designers. Freelancers provide photography and illustration for the art editor to work with and the cover is the most important part of the magazine the art editor will work on, this is because this is what is shown to the public when it is put on the shelf.

  1. Some good comments - again some statements from the book but mainly written in own words. Don't forget the book reference. Change us to use in fourth line.
